DIY Birch Banner: Good Tidings

Tis the season for good tidings and DIY projects!

To add a rustic layer of personalization to this holiday season, our stylist, Charra, assembled a festive banner in a charming cabin chic style for our Woodland Lodge Idea Book. With natural details collected into a perfect bundle of woodland decor, this banner hearkens the coziest winter lodge, snow falling outside, with a cup of hot chocolate on the side table. Bring this sign into your own home, or present it as a gift to a loved one during this holiday season!

1. What You'll Need

Create the perfect accent for your home or event this winter season with our DIY banner!

2. Pencil in the Banner Flags

Style your home or event in woodland design with our DIY banner!

Outline the design for each individual banner piece on your natural birch bark strips.

Tip: Print out a template before you start cutting to use as a guideline in creating uniformity for your banner. Alternately, use the narrow width of the sheets themselves to define the dimensions.

3. Cut Out the Flags

Create the perfect woodland design for your home or event this winter season with our DIY banner!

Cut out your design with snips.

4. Create a Template for the Letters

Inspire woodland style in your home or event this winter season with our DIY banner!

With the template you created earlier, cut out a rectangle to assist with framing in your lettering. This will establish uniformity in your design.

5. Sketch Your Letters

Capture the winter season in a DIY banner for your home or event!

Center the template over each cut banner piece and trace a letter in the rectangle box. We recommend use of a graphite or charcoal pencil because they are easy to erase if you wish to redraw your design.

6. Dip Twine in Decoupage Glue

Create a this DIY banner for your winter wedding, woodland designed event or for your home Christmas decor!

Measure the twine against your design and cut sections accordingly. Dip each piece in the decoupage glue, squeezing out the excess.

7. Outline Your Letters

Personalizing your events this season is easy! Our DIY banner perfectly captures the winter lodge style that we so love.

After squeezing the excess glue back into the decoupage bottle, lay out each piece of twine over your lettering. Add or subtract pieces of twine depending on how bold you want the graphic. Allow a few minutes for the glue to dry.

8. Create Stringing Holes

Bring this DIY banner into your own home, or present it as a gift to a loved one during this holiday season.

Use a precision knife to cut out two holes: one on the left and right top sides of the banner. This is where the twine will be strung through.

9. String the Banner

With an arrangement of natural details and rustic influences, this banner is an effortless addition in festive cabin chic decor and shabby lodge designs.

Thread the twine through the holes of your banner flags. Check for spelling before hanging!

Tip: The natural textures of both the twine and the bark will prevent excessive flag sliding, but if you want even more stability, glue the twine to the back of the birch flags.

10. The Finished Look

Your family and friends will be oohing and ahhing over this DIY banner you made!

Your family and friends will fawn over this piece...the perfect reaction to a woodland inspired accent!
